Ethernetkabels: altijd een fijn onderwerp. Is er een verschil hoorbaar? Is er geen verschil hoorbaar? Waar zitten de eventuele verschillen? Wij pakken het eens anders aan. In plaats van alles uit te werken in een geschreven artikel hebben we onze sample-opstelling gereed gemaakt en gewoonweg opnames gemaakt van de diverse kabels. Veel kijk én luisterplezier!

En verstandig om zelf geen stelling in te nemen maar dit aan de luisteraar over te laten, zeker wat betreft ethernet kabels (of kabels zonder meer) !
Ik heb er zelf direct geen mening over dus heb ik zonder vooroordeel geluisterd.
Dat luisteren gebeurde aan mijn PC waarbij een Fiio Olympus 2 dac een Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro aanstuurt. Geen super high end maar zeker transparent genoeg om verschillen te horen.
Voor mij lag het grootste verschil tussen de standaard kabel en vervolgens de CAT 700 Pearl van audioquest. Het was absoluut niet subtiel. Tja hoe moet ik het zeggen, door de audioquest kwam ‘alles meer tot leven’.
De andere kabels gaven ook verschillen maar minder hoorbaar tov de Pearl mijns inziens. Uiteindelijk moet ik toegeven dat de Pearl mijn voorkeur wegdraagt.
En dit nog terzijde:
Als ik het goed begrepen heb, hangt jullie roon server aan fiber optic en wordt dan via de convertor naar UTP met de ambre verbonden ?
Het omgekeerde is volgens mij even interessant (en meer toepasbaar voor het merendeel van ons). De server is verbonden via UTP. De streamer heeft een fiber optic ingang (vb. de apparatuur van Sonore) en tussen de twee zit een converter (maar dan in de andere zin). Volgens mij (maar dat is eerder een ‘estimated guess’) ben je dan minder afhankelijk van welke UTP kabel je gebruikt. Dit is natuurlijk een heel andere opstelling en heel andere test …

Dank voor je reactie! Leuk te horen dat je verschillen waarneemt. Ik hoor ook dingen, maar wil de uiteindelijke conclusies aan de luisteraar overlaten.
De opbouw van het netwerk is als volgt
ROON-server –> SFTP-ethernet kabel in converter (ethernet naar optisch) –> Zyxel Switch.
Zyxel Switch –> optisch naar een converter (optisch naar utp) –> Metrum Ambre
Met name werken met fiber geeft voor mij een positief verschil. Ook QoS goed inregelen (hoge prioriteit voor muziek) geeft een prettig resultaat.

Voor beginners met streaming is het verhaal soms niet te volgen vanwege de benaming van de apparaten en de afkortingen die er zijn gebruikt.
Wat zit waar? Hoe is de volgorde van de apparaten?
Jouw overzicht ROON-server –> SFTP enz. is een ware eye opener.
Het overzicht van de gebruikte apparatuur (in het begin van de test) zou ook in een goede (signaal)-volgorde gepresenteerd kunnen worden.

Het verklaart waarom een verbetering van losse zaken (kabel, voeding) niet voor iedereen DE oplossing is.
In jouw opstelling zitten er naar mijn voorzichtige schatting meer dan 8 verschillende (stekker)-voedingen. Die zijn geen van alle geaard! De respectievelijk lekstromen vinden hun weg via de kabels.
Waar gaat de lekstroom naar toe? Die kiest de kortste weg, naar de apparaten die wél geaard zijn. Een puinhoop dus: een kabel dient er niet voor om de lekstroom te geleiden.
Een goede voeding heeft een kleine lekstroom, opgave fabrikant ?

While I have heard differences between certain ethernet cables in my main system they can be very small. They may well be very hard to register with microphones let alone remain in place through all the encoding.
I did give it a shot, only using the Harman/Kardon GLA-55 computer speaker system. At first, I thought that the AQ sounded more sonorous than the standard cable but upon repeating the comparison multiple times I can no longer say that I reliably hear differences between these two or with any of the cables.
Also, as Jaap already mentions, having the optical connection in place may well isolate some of the effects that would otherwise occur. After all, it seems obvious that it would not be the data stream itself that is affected but rather picked-up noise that somehow affects the decoding.

1-I found that by changing only the A cable, the difference was audible.
2-I noticed that by only changing cable B the difference was audible.

2- the wire section (Awg)
3- the geometry of the cable

First thing the cable A Meicord is fixed since it crosses the house. Only cable B will be tested.
 There are several points are confirmed:
– there are audible differences between the different ethernet cables Rj45
– on Joël’s system, a cable goes particularly well with his system and the MeiCord cable: the 1attack.
– other cables combine properly with Meicord and Joël’s reference system: Monoprice slimrun 30 and 32 cables but also the flat Logilink Awg30 and Awg32
If you are interested I can describe the methodology for obtaining a good result with a selection of Rj45 ethernet cables for positions A and B as well as the type of sound that is obtained.
For an optimal result it is necessary to look at the nature of the DC cable which feeds the switch.
