Overview High End Munich 2019

We would like to have a quick look at the High End Munich 2019. Yung has already written an article about this big show, but now your editor would like to give his opinion as well. We promise to be brief.

Besides a lot of audio products – which we are about to talk about – there is more to see and learn at this show. There have been a lot of lectures. For example, colleague Hans Beekhuyzen gave a lecture on speaker placement. It’s quite special to see a Dutch colleague on stage among all that international, intellectual violence. Congratulations again, Hans!

Trends

Every year there are new trends. And so also this year. Vinyl? Yeah. Sure. But that wasn’t the main trend. We also see a lot of reel to reel… and tubes. Wouldn’t the trend in the high-end niche be analogous? Not so much. But we’re seeing a clearer and clearer segregation. It’s really streaming VS analog. Hard on hard, because brands such as Aurender, Auralic, Melco, NAIM and for example the Lenbrook group are putting a lot of effort into digital. But we see analogous violence from the many high-end niche brands. Estelon does demos with vinyl, Nagra… etc.

Now the focus on analogue audio says quite a bit in our opinion. Apparently, people have a strong tendency towards the physical medium. They want to hold on to something. Next to a tablet or phone then. Now your editor doesn’t have that tendency, although he does buy all the special editions of his favourite artists on vinyl… anyway, those records won’t be played, they’ll be streamed in high-res.

Beautiful things

What is nice to see is that beautiful brands are coming to the Netherlands. Think about Avid. Or Ascendo. Not the most affordable things, but very nice. Also several products have been renewed, improved and we at Sbooster understood that things are going so well that there is just a waiting list on their feeds. Look, um… we think that’s clever!

To give you a complete overview of what we did at this show, we have placed the playlist below. Two more videos are added to these 18 interviews. Then you already know that. We’re also working on an overview video. Handy for those who don’t have that much time. You’ll see them early next week.

Have fun watching.
